Well, I should have posted this sooner but life happens. We recently attended our 5th Riding On Insulin camp and as usual it did not disappoint! This by far was the biggest camp attended to date and there are quite a few advantages and disadvantages to the size of camp that we have learned from attending both small and large groups. Either way the best part of camp is being surrounded by other type 1s. Not having to stop and explain things, not having to answer questions, just being with people who “get it” makes a huge difference in how it is both a big part of our lives but also not something that stops us from living life. This turned out to be a great group with new and returning locals, and new and returning travelers coming from all over to attend. The parent session was an excellent networking time connecting and forging relationships that will continue throughout the year. Tips on technology and different brands and companies were shared and there were quite a few takeaways for most people. Most importantly, parents got to also feel a part of a shared group gaining support in the care world that some lack back at their homes. Cecilia got to take part in the junior coaches camp and spending time working with the less experienced kids helping them learn skiing techniques and good blood sugar control on the mountain. Lookout folks it won’t be long before she’s an official coach! Seeing the coaches that we only see once a year and catching up is always a pleasure. There were quite a few new coaches this year too which was fun to hear their stories and connections to the t1d world. While the weather seemed to provide a little bit of everything that weekend we rolled with the punches and enjoyed both the sunshine and the winter wonderland that decided to drop in springtime. Will we be back next year? You betcha! (Might even have to check out one of the bike camps this summer…) Photos taken by Riding On Insulin (Dustin probably), Cecilia, & myself
